SIM² KU Leuven (Tarantula consortium member) meets the President of Bolivia! Prior to his participation in the long-awaited Celac-EU summit in Brussels, on 17 July 2023 SIM² KU Leuven had the honour to meet Luis Arce, the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia. SIM² Director Peter Tom Jones had the chance to present the vision and research of the KU Leuven Institute for Sustainable Metals and Minerals in the field of responsible mining and refining of energy transition metals.
The presentation, which was given in the unique setting of the Rectoral Salons of KU Leuven, led to a very refreshing debate with the President and his esteemed delegation about the future valorisation of Bolivia’s (critical) raw materials. (Note that Bolivia has the largest Lithium resources in the world.)
SIM² now looks forward to the further development of this grand adventure and a counter visit to La Paz with a team of experts covering the full value chain from mine to refined metals.
